Fall/Winter 2010-2011 Men's Fashion Trends

Fall/winter 2010-2011 men fashion trends are varied, from clean cuts and elegant styles to more cool and chic allures full of confidence. One can find a return to the classic, but also more modern and creative interpretations. As for the colors, get ready to enjoy the already famous new black, which is camel, and a burst of brighter colors such as orange, yellow, or blue.
Fall/winter 2010-2011 men's fashion trends are wearable, versatile and practical, characterized by a certain return to the basics and to fine luxury. However, one cannot omit the unique tailoring and designs that give, in fact, the original touch to every collection. Therefore, no ostentation, nor eccentricity, and invest in “safe” and “reliable” clothing pieces. From elegant and dandy style to rock and military, get ready to boost your masculinity with the newest fashion trends.

Classic means timeless and it will always be a reference point for fashion designers. As we have said it before, collections for fall/winter 2010-2011 returned to the classics with perfectly tailored trench coats, suits with checked patterns or cashmere sweaters. Classic can also be associated to a special elegance that exudes masculinity.

We have seen an elegant approach to Hermès, Michael Kors, Dries Van Noten, Burberry Prorsum, Maison Martin Margiela, or Louis Vuitton. The urban dandy style with fabrics such as wool, velvet or leather that can transform a simple man into a genuine dandy (Diesel, Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Elie Tahari).

You're in the army now! Well, at least you can pretend you are in the army due to this season's it-trend: military. A khaki or gray parka matched with a pair of chunky boots can represent the perfect combination that allows you to keep up with the trends. In order to add a cool effect to your outfit invest in different edgy accessories, such as a large scarf or a pair of retro eyeglasses.

Moreover, try the absolute trend of the season: the aviator jacket. Draw your inspiration from Burberry Prorsum, William Rast, Y3, Dries Van Noten, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, or Band of Outsiders.

Both for women and men too, fur and knits seem to be two of the hottest fabrics this season. There are not only cozy keeping you warm against the cold outside, but they also offer a certain touch to any outfit. You can go for a head-to-toe fur, Yeti look as seen at Chanel, or, if this is too much for your taste, try a furry coat or simple furry details and match them to classic clothing items into your wardrobe. The fur trend was also spotted at Just Cavalli, John Rocha, Paul&Joe. Besides, you can also choose comfy cardigans or pullovers (Dolce&Gabbana).

For tougher guys there is always the cool alternative of the rock style. A pair of leather pants, a ripped t-shirt and a pair of boots are the right choices for a rock look. Don't forget about the metallic applications that are specific to this trend. Custo Barcelona, Diesel, Jeremy Scott, Maison Martin Margiela, or Calvin Klein are some of the designers that presented this trend.

Layering might sound difficult to achieve as it requires special attention to details and a good sense of style. However, the '70s layering trend seems to be hotter than ever. In fact, it is not a hard task to obtain a cool layered outfit. You just have to play with different textures, lengths and fabrics. For a complete layering winter outfit you need to invest in accessories, such as a scarf, leather gloves and a hat. Take a look to Just Cavalli, Y3 and William Rast if you lack ideas.

Tones of beige or camel have invaded masculine fashion too. Whether you go for the classic camel overcoat (Louis Vuitton, Dries Van Noten) or a shearling jacket (Lacoste), this color should definitely be in your wardrobe this season. You can draw your inspiration from collections such as Michael Kors or Maison Martin Margiela where beige is harmoniously mixed with gray or black.

Besides beige tones, there can also be observed a burst of colors for fall/winter 2010-2011 men fashion trends. Cherry-colored, orange, blue or yellow can represent bolder options that can brighten up a dull, gloomy winter outfit. We have seen colors at Custo Barcelona, Lacoste, Etro, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and G-Star.

As for the accessories invest in bags (Dries Van Noten, Hermès, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton), scarfs (Hermès), winter hats and gloves.

Fahad Hussayn Exclusive Interview with Fashion Central

Fahad Hussayn is now safely amongst the list of those young designers who not only have a lot of potential but also a lot of promise for the future of our industry.

1. Please share with us your career profile?

I started off pretty early and discovered my flare for style and making fashion statements out of everyday ordinary wearables.  However I found out that having a natural talent is not enough until and unless it’s honed and nurtured properly. After graduation from BNU as a textile major, and a journey of self learning I opened my atelier three years ago. After a year in the making I was discovered as the best upcoming talent in the eighthLux Style Awards which proved to be an instant hour of recognition where everybody finally stood and started noticing my work. These days I am stocking up at Labels, Fashion Pakistan Lounge, L’atelier, the design emporium at Ammar Belal and various International outlets.

2. The business cycle is not easy to endure, especially for newcomers. Can you name a Guru who guided you?

Yes it is not easy but at the end of the day the real fruits of hard labor can only be enjoyed by those who have a true and genuine claim to it.  There were many godfathers of fashion whom I met on the journey of self discovery but mostly it is by self learning and a trial an error method that the achievement can be made. Maram and Aabroo have always been a constant support throughout my career so far, Rizwan Beyg has helped me a lot generously so have a lot of other friends like Adnan Pardesy and Fayez Agariah- I consider myself very lucky that way I’m blessed with a very strong support system .

3. How do you choose the fabrics and related accessories?

I have a research team, which works on the identified and pre discussed themes. The fabrics and related accessories must compliment the idea and the ambience the outfit is going to exude. However, I do feel that we have to make do-with-whatever-choices we have available in our local markets for the dress to have market affordability.

4. When you see your dresses looking good on an individual, how do you feel?

Absolute pleasure and an unbelievable sense of satisfaction! It is mostly a labor of love from the minute the idea is conceived onwards.

5. In case of a dissatisfactory customer, do you accept criticism; ever lose your temper?

I used to have such cases in the initial stages of my career, back then I myself was learning,
I used to take care of them until they were satisfied, now sometimes it happened that some clients are just impossible they pretend that they not happy to either get more work done or some other reason so mostly I tend to ignore and accept criticism as long as it’s fair, and I lose temper very easily

6. Please share with us the highs and lows of your commercial career?

What thrills you?

7. Pakistan made textiles; do you accept the quality of the cloth?

With cottons yes definitely!- we are producing some of the best cotton and lawn around the globe.

PERSONAL

1. Your competitors in business, are they a threat?

I believe in healthy competition- everyone has a something different to offer- and when a client wants you they want you- threats are for insecure people – not my thing".

2. Ever consider changing your line of business?

Never- I love my job!

3. Are you training people eager to learn?

I always do and I never say no to help anyone who wants to learn about fashion and its trade.

FUTURE

1. How do you see your work, five years from now?

Better I suppose!!- And I’d like to see it Paris for sure!

2. The current state of economy, Is it bothering your plans?

Yes it is- any decline in the economy affects our business directly because we sell luxury. When people can’t afford to buy it directly affects the business and the plans off course.

3. Pakistan’s image abroad, certainly top designers like you can help to improve it?

We can, we do and there is so much that only fashion can do for Pakistan’s image- We as a nation need to become stronger, and help each other in improving our image as a nation and as a country.

Wholesale Clothes - How Are Designer Clothes Being Sold at Cheap Wholesale Prices

Starting an online clothing business can be hard at times - especially if you only want to carry branded clothing from designers. Sourcing directly from their stores might make you pay thousand of dollars, and thereby, you have to raise your prices as well, which your customers won't like.
Selling high-quality clothing is really important because it lets you set you set yourself apart from competition. Wearing designer clothes or branded apparel is something that all people wants to do - but they don't want to pay too much for it. This, in fact, is very good for you. If only you could find wholesale-priced designer clothes...
But how are these wholesale clothes priced lower than before? How is it possible that those expensive and high-quality apparel are available at wholesale prices?
Wholesale designer clothing lots are possible because these designer brands always have new collections every season. Therefore, they must 'dispose' of their old ones to give way to the new ones. They put these unsold clothing on sale. However, if they still don't get sold by a specific period of time, companies usually sell them as wholesale lots at a very cheap price.
In addition to that, cheap designer clothing can also be available if there is an excess in the production of clothing. They could also be priced cheaper if they have small damages or they do not pass quality control. Therefore, they could be sold at really low wholesale prices, therefore making it a very good advantage for you.
Wholesale suppliers most of the time take hold of these designer wholesale clothing lots. They can either sell them at retail prices, or mark them up a bit and sell them to business owners to be sold in online shops and stores. You could take advantage of these by looking up wholesale designer clothing lots, as well. By buying in very low prices, you could pass them off with higher margins to your customers, ensuring you of bigger revenue and at the same time, reaping good reputation because you are selling quality designer clothing at low prices.
Wholesale directories could help you find these clothing lots if you do not know where to look. You can also look in various auction sites like eBay to see if they offer cheap designer clothing. Remember, as a business owner, you want to source cheap, nice and high-quality clothing so your customers would definitely come back for more.

How to become a fashion photographer

A career in fashion photography doesn't have to be an impossible dream.

With its huge audience, high pay-checks and glamorous international lifestyle, fashion photography may seem like one of the world's most sought-after professions. But for every fashion photographer who makes it through the door of a top magazine, a thousand others find their niche fashion advertising, art photography, celebrity portraiture or even paparazzi work to make a living.
Allure magazine photo editor Clio McNicholl, photo agent Gloria Cappelletti and New York fashion photographer Eva Mueller agree that breaking into the industry can be hard. But they have some tips for beginners on setting up a portfolio, submitting work to magazine picture editors, choosing the right photo agency and even getting shown in a gallery.

Setting up a portfolio
A photographer's most important tool is her portfolio, and this is particularly true for beginners who don't have an established reputation.
The images you choose to showcase in your portfolio should be thematically linked to the job you're trying to get – still-lifes or product shots if you're going for an advertising gig, for example. But also throw in one or two other images to demonstrate your range. Strong portraits are always a safe bet, as they tend to stay in the mind of the viewer.
Once you've got your portfolio together, the next challenge is to get the picture editor to use you.

Picking your picture editor
When you submit work to photo editors, remember that you're "showing" rather than "selling". Editors almost never buy the specific image they see before them; they're looking for a photographer who can execute future commissions. You'll need to be persistent in sending out your work, and ruthless in editing what you choose to show.
The best way to grab an editor's attention is to show previously published work. But there's a down-side.

When you're submitting your work, remember:
  • Call the magazine ahead and get the name of the person to whose attention the submission should be marked
  • Label everything with your name and telephone number
  • Send working prints or transparencies, not originals
  • Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope if you want the work back
Finding a photo agent
Photo agencies exist to liaise with clients and sell photographers' work on their behalf. They benefit everyone from start-out photographers, who may not have many industry contacts, to seasoned professionals, who are too busy to take care of business dealings themselves.
A photo agency is not the only place that can sell your work. If you're more interested in concentrating on your personal vision than taking commercial work, you can also considering exhibiting in a fine art photography gallery.
Getting a gallery

Once derided as a scientific curiosity with no artistic value, photographs are now one of the hottest growth areas in the international fine art market.
If a gallery is interested in taking you on as an artist, they'll probably want to see a representative sampling of your work. Even if you have one or two knock-out images in your portfolio, a gallery will want to know that you have a mature body of work with a consistent standard throughout. Remember that many artists join a gallery simply by having their work go into the back-room inventory, where it will be shown to specific collectors, rather than having a public exhibition. Not everyone is offered a solo show.
The most important thing to remember about working with a gallery is to maintain a proper business relationship. Every print you give to a gallery should be inventoried by you – not them – and you should understand when and how you can expect payment in the even of a sale. Industry standard is that the artist receives 50% of the retail price of a photo.
You should also discuss whether you are free to have relationships with other galleries, or if your gallery expects exclusivity.

Biker fashion: motorcycle chic trend

Trends begin, they evolve, and then they fade or simply become a standard. Skinny jeans became a standard, the military fashion trend cannot. So as 2011's fashion trends come to fruition, as we move fully into a new decade, and as military chic becomes as drawn out as the war that inspired it, what becomes of the military influences that have helped keep the likes of Balmain and Burberry in fashionisers' conscience? What replaces it?
The answer may lie in a trend that has been around for some time, but a trend that hasn't been able to be much more than a blip on the radar while in the shadow of military fashion. The trend?Biker chic.
Interested in keeping up with this and other 2011 trends? Then subscribe to Fashionising.com's newsletter or RSS feed for all the latest trends along with inspiration on how to wear them.
And we're not the only ones to think so. Take Burberry who, with little ceremony, dwindled the military motifs that they've been known for of late down to a few select elements in their S/S 2011 collection. Much of the rest of the collection was biker inspired and infused, so much so that the collection is named Heritage Biker. So with biker fashion elements not exactly being something new for 2011, it leaves to be discovered what elements will help take the style to a new level.

Biker fashion: key elements

Motorcycle jacket

Can you imagine the military trend without a military jacket? Not possible. And so it goes without saying that the motorcycle jacket is the key statement piece for the motorcycle / biker fashiontrend. Naturally, not any motorcycle jacket will do. While we undoubtedly will see fast fashion stores give us motorcycle jackets in the now-subdued vein of the 'Brando jacket', the motorcycle jacket in 2011 needs to be much more of a statement piece.
And so it goes that it's not merely about an overused cut and simple black colour. In fact, many a colour will suit. You can take the lead from Burberry's colour offerings (above in a traditional Burberry colour, immediately below in silver, and further below in two-tone leather), or you can look to spring 2010's colour trends, specifically those for leather, for inspiration.

Of course, just because the biker chic trend is about more than Brando jackets and black motorcycle jackets doesn't mean to say that the trend is completely devoid of both styles. Take Balmain's, pre-spring 2011 offering for instance: it's a motorcycle jacket that is somewhat military-cum-Brando.
So with everything from boring blacks to statement silvers having been designed, what key elements should a fashioniser be looking for in a statement military jacket for 2011?The answer is two in particular.

Zipped sleeves

Quilting

Leather pants

You may think of biker pants as anything skin tight and black. But again, that's not necessarily so in 2011. Christopher Bailey's leather motorcycle pants for Burberry can grab attention just as well in neutral tones, with mesh side-panels and an exposed, feature zip. As with other elements of the bike chic trend it's all about the detail, and last season's plain leather leggings won't quite cut it. Panels, quilting and padding, and zips all add to the tough yet ultra-slick and modern feel of the neo biker pant, while other thick, skin-hugging materials like neoprene can also work as an alternative to leather.

The skirted alternative

As it is with other elements of the biker chic trend, there's also an alternative to biker pants. Drawing on the quilted motifs of their motorcycle jackets, Burberry have produced a neo-mod leather skirt with quilting detailing that not only sits perfectly with the bike fashion trend, but also acts as the perfect alternative statement piece to the motorcycle jacket.

Motorcycle boots

And last but not least, motorcycle boots round out the key elements of the biker fashion trend - hardly a surprise given no trend is complete without a tie-in shoe trend. Biker boots, having been in fashion for some time now, won't be hard to come by. You could consider that a plus, but don't rest on your laurels: mass marketing of biker boots means that a lot of very average styles are going to be seen on the streets already, so in order to get motorcycle boots right in 2011 look for a statement pair; something that exudes quality and style - a pair such as the Chanel biker boots.
